~: M H O :~ Assam - Massive killing of other state people

NDFB's anti-talk faction of NDFB killed two more persons on Tuesday and injured eight others. With this, the death toll has rose to 21 since Monday's massacre.

The incident occured at Ultapani, about 54 km from Kokrajhar near the Indo-Bhutanese border, even as troops of 4th Corps started combing the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border areas.

Tilak Poddar (25), a cycle mechanic and Hafijur Mondal (35), a blacksmith engaged by the handloom and textile department of the
Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in construction work, were critically wounded.

The second incident took place at Kokrajhar around 9 pm when NDFB anti-talks faction raided Deragaon village and gunned down one person. Police said seven persons were wounded in the attack and they were rushed to the
Kokrajhar Civil Hospital.

Earlier in the day, NDFB anti-talks faction claimed responsibility for all the killings since Monday. Member of the militant group's central committee B Phangsao said the killings are in retaliation to the killing of Maheswari Basumatary by security forces at Dhekiajuli on Monday morning.

Chief minister
Tarun Gogoi said, "I have had a discussion with the GOC of 4th Corps and we are going all out against these militants. We will not compromise with them. We are also talking to Arunachal Pradesh for coordination action along the border areas of the two states."

A senior police official said the anti-talk faction of NDFB in the hit and run tactic are taking shelter inside Arunachal Pradesh about 10 km inside from the border. The group's chief Ranjan Daimary, currently in jail, is not in control of the outfit.

In one of the worst serial attacks in Assam, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB)'s anti-talks faction militants on Monday killed 19 people, mostly Hindi-speaking, and left over 11 injured in seven strikes within three hours.

Monday's strikes came barely 12 hours after security forces killed a top leader of the dreaded outfit at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district. The NDFB recently threatened to kill 20 ''Indians'' for each Bodo eliminated in counter-insurgency operations.

The carnage began on Monday evening when an unarmed militant stopped a private bus at Boimara in Sonitpur . The bus was carrying passengers from Tezpur, about 80 km from the incident site, to Seujusa in Arunachal Pradesh. Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the bus driver stopped his vehicle, thinking the unarmed militant was a passenger.

''It was then that three armed youth appeared on the scene and asked women and children inside the bus to come out. They snatched away the mobile phones from the women and asked the eight men, who were still inside, to stand in a line. Then, the militants started spraying bullets from their AK-47s, killing all the eight on the spot,'' a police officer said.

The victims are believed to be Hindi-speaking and were working in Arunachal Pradesh. Police said the deceased were yet to be identified. Some of them were reported to be Arunachal Pradesh government employees posted at Seujusa.

Almost simultaneously, between 5 and 5.30 pm, a gang of six militants riding motorcycles appeared at a residential area near Belsiri railway station, also in Sonitpur, and fired indiscriminately. Five people, including a woman, were killed and four others injured in the attack. Among the dead were two Bodo civilians. Belsiri is about 80 km from Boimara.

Soon after the second attack, another group of rebels belonging to the same outfit struck at a place near Tamulpur police station in Baksa district bordering
Bhutan. One person was killed and two were injured in the attack. This was followed by the killing of a woman, identified as M Mondal, in the backyard of her house at Hugrajuli.
