Almost all emirates in the country recorded light to moderate rainfall on Monday even as cloudy conditions prevailed, bringing down temperature.

Al Rashidiya, Al Qusais, Al Twar and Al Nahda areas in Dubai had short spells of heavy rain between 11am and 12 noon, while Al Rolla, Buhairah Corniche, King Faisal Street and Yarmook areas of Sharjah experienced light to moderate showers in the morning.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) in Abu Dhabi, light to moderate rain will continue till the weekend due to the unstable weather conditions.

The maximum temperature today will be between 24 and 26 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature is expected to be between 9 and 15 in the internal parts of the country.

The NCMS recorded rainfall from Sunday midnight till 3pm on Monday in different regions of the country. While Al Dhaid recorded 4mm of rain, Al Ghatarah and Al Shuwaib recorded 2.6mm, Al Manama 1.2mm, Al Raodha and Shamam 0.6mm, Jais 0.4mm and Seh Al Sulm 0.2mm. A few areas in Al Ain city received moderate rain showers on Monday afternoon. Fujairah and its suburbs also recorded moderate to heavy rainfall in the afternoon resulting in a significant fall in temperatures.

Abu Dhabi also reported light drizzle in parts. Cloudy weather in Abu Dhabi caused a dip in the temperature as moderate winds turned the atmosphere very cold during the day.

The NCMS has cautioned motorists to drive slowly as wet and slippery roads could cause skidding and low visibility could result in accidents.

Forecasters predict light drizzle and moderate showers in the coming days over the northern and western areas. Open areas, notably the western and internal areas, may be prone to dust kicked up by moderate to fresh winds. A recorded forecast by the Dubai Meteorological Services (DMS) mentioned the risk of thunderstorms over some areas.

Strong winds during the day caused waves to reach up to eight feet high in the deep sea. The centre has warned beach-goers against venturing out into the seas.

Cloudy weather is expected to continue and relative humidity is expected to further increase during night and early morning, the centre said.

Meanwhile, there will be light to moderate winds, while the sea wave height will be two to four feet offshore.

Al Ain/Sharjah: The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has posted a weather alert advising people to stay ashore to avoid rough seas.

Waves measuring 2.4 metres could be detected offshore on Monday. The storm's severity was expected to ease slightly, but waves were expected to still be between 1.2 and 1.5 metres due to strong north-westerly winds.

Moderate to heavy rain lashed Sharjah and some other cities with thunder and lightning on Monday and forecasters said more scattered light rain was likely on Tuesday.

Weather will be partly cloudy in general and become cloudy over scattered areas, forecasters said.

The national weather bureau said there was still a chance of rain, especially in the northern and western islands of the Arabian Gulf.

Sharjah and its surrounding areas yesterday were lashed by rain that flooded streets in low-lying areas. Al Ain also received the season's first rain at about 1.15pm on Monday.

The brief rainy spell brought much-needed relief. NCMS said Al Ain received 2.6 millimetres, Manama 0.8mm, and Al Faqqa 0.2mm of rain.

The rain, which has been scattered across the country, has been heavy in Ras Al Khaimah over the past three days.

Water has reportedly been accumulating in various localities. Municipality staff said they had been working to clear the drains to release the rain.

The rain has also brought cooler weather across the country, forcing people into warmer clothes in the evening.

It was also expected to help reduce seasonal ailments such as flu, cough and the allergies affecting people due to the prolonged dry spell.

Winds were expected to be slight to moderate today, especially at sea and over open land areas.

This may churn up dust and sand at times in the western areas, causing slight visibility problems.

People driving in the areas have been asked to remain alert.

Today temperatures were expected to remain between 14 degrees Celsius and 25°C in the coastal areas, between 9°C and 26°C in the internal areas, and between 4°C and 16°C in the mountainous areas, forecasters said.
