1st June, 2011. Wednesday. This partial solar eclipse willvisible on the night of Wednesday, 1st June, 2011 from 12 : 55 AM to 4 : 27 AM of 2nd June, 2011. This solar eclipse won't be visible in all the countries. Wherever it will be seen, proper care will have to be taken to watch it.
Countries where Solar Eclipse will be visible
This Solar Eclipse won't be visible in India. So prayers, baths, charity would not be seen here. This Solar Eclipse would be visible in Eastern Asia (except Japan) , Northern Alaska, Northern Canada, Greenland and Iceland.
Other Eclipses occurring in 2011
Five eclipses will be visible in the central earth from 4th April, 2011 to 22nd March, 2011. Only two out of these five eclipses, will be visible in India. The first Solar Eclipse of Vikrami Salatsar will be visible on Wednesday, 1st June, 2011. The second will be the Lunar Eclipse on Wednesday, 15th June, 2011. This Lunar Eclipse will be visible in India. The third Eclipse will be on Friday, 1st July, 2011 and even this won't be visible in India. The fourth one is a Solar Eclipse and it will be visible on 25th November, 2011. The last Eclipse of this year is a Lunar Eclipse which will be seen on 10th December, 2011.
Sutak (inauspicious) time during Solar Eclipse
The time during the Eclipse is considered inauspicious and people are advised to prohibit from doing certain activities during this period. All the daily activities like baths, lunch etc should be done prior to the Eclipse time. People should not eat food, worship idols or sleep during this period. It is believed that the results of the Eclipse can be noted even before the occurrence of the Eclipse. These prohibitions are not meant for children, pregnant women and sick people.
People should not pluck flowers, leaves or branches during this period. Planting a tree is also considered prohibited. Hair and clothes should not be washed. People should not eat food and should not carry out excavations during this period.
One the Eclipse is over, people usually take baths to purify themselves. Even temples are washed, cleaned and only then are the temple gates opened for the devotees.
Things to do during an Eclipse
Indulging in charitable activities like giving away old clothes to the needy and poor is considered sacred during the time of an Eclipse. Feeding cows and birds is also considered sacred. People should offer their prayers to God and indulge themselves in sacred activities during this period. People should throw away stale food and water. The should make fresh food and refill the water.
