Sony DAV - DZ810:

It gifts you a stylish and really good looking set of speakers for your theatre. The system has some decent bark, especially with the much-welcomed addition of an active subwoofer. Barring the lack of blu-ray support, this one is a jack of all trades. Setting up may be tedious but the trouble is compensated by some really exciting features this machine offers.

Key Specs: HDMI Output, USB Composite, BRAVIA Sync, S-AIR Wireless Ready, FM; Channels: 5.1

Price: Rs 29,990 is what you are required to spend

Looks amazing, Big on features

Not an amazing sound quality to be honest, Setting-up process is cumbersome

MensXP Rating: 4/5

Onkyo HT-S3300:

Big on sound and easy on handling (it takes only 15 minutes to set up this one), this system can pose some serious challenges to the likes of Sony and Phillips. It incorporates numerous new-age features and delivers an excellent surround sound. There are three HDMI inputs to let you connect your Blu-ray player, the game console, and cable/satellite box. Overall, a great buy.

Umm…well, there are no thumbs down really.

Samsung HW-C450:

It's a well-constructed, compact 2.1 channel system that represents Samsung's earnest efforts to deliver a convincing home cinema experience. It boasts of a thin-design which is complemented by a wireless subwoofer. It lacks HDMI connectivity, though. The sound is extremely good when you are playing movies.

Price: Samsung wants Rs 19,900 for this one.

Yamaha YHT-S400:

It's an ergonomic home theatre system which offers a range of sound modes. Yamaha sells this one by labelling it as the slimmest sound bar in the market. CNET Asia, in its review, writes: "the YHT-S400 is without a doubt an attractive package for home entertainment minimalists". It's ideal for those who are looking for a surround-ish sound and don't want to get bothered by a horde of speakers and wires.

Price: You need to shell out Rs 35,000 for this.

Key Specs: 100 W subwoofer, three 1080p-capable HDMI inputs, slim 50 mm soundbar

space-saving, great sound quality, Bluetooth compatibility

Hit-and-miss surround effects, a tad too expensive, limited A/V receiver features

MensXP Rating: 4/5

Philips HTS5590:

It's an easy-to-use (literally a no-brainer) Blu-Ray home theatre system. It supports a decent assortment of file formats and is compatible with almost all sorts of media storage devices. Looks are awesome and it gives good connectivity options. The sound quality is a bit disappointing. "The unremarkable sound quality of the Philips HTS6500 is outweighed by its winning combination of slick aesthetics, impressive features, and affordable pricing," CNET opines in it review.

Price: You need to dole out Rs 40,000 to grab this.

Key Specs: Power: 1000W; HDMI, Composite component, Ethernet, wireless rear audio, supports numerous formats; Channels: 5.1

Stylish and aesthetic looks, 3D ready, easy hook-up system for portable players
