Flags should represent the ultimate symbol of patriotism. They are the symbol of a particular country. Even though flags are a simple piece of fabric, their significance is immense. However, flags can be used in different purposes then of that of patriotism. Flags can be used for messaging or signaling or even in advertising. Bit their true purpose should be the one of proud and joy that the people has in his home land. Therefore, flags should be carefully designed and thought of. But there are always exceptions to the rule, like in the cases of these countries.
1. Benin Empire
The Benin Empire lasted from 1440 up to 1897. It shouldn’t be confused with the modern-day country Benin, formerly known as Dahomey. This pre-colonial African state had a pretty unusual flag. It seems that the flag was more like a keep-off sign of warning then of patriotism.
2. Fryslan (Netherlands)
Frysland is a province in the Netherlands. The Frisian flag is the official flag of this province. It has four blue and three white diagonal stripes and seven heart-shaped lives. The jerseys of the football club sc Heerenveen are designed after this flag. It looks more like a school-girl’s bedroom wall then a flag.
3. Guam
The flag of this country was adopted on February 9, 1948. In the middle of the fag is coat of arms, an emblem that depicts Agana Bay, a local proa (a type of a sailing vessel) and a palm tree. It looks more like a touristic build board then like a flag, if you ask me.
4. Isle of Man
The flag of the Isle of Man aka flag of Mann is a triskelion. A triskelion is a motif consisting of three interlocked spirals or three bent human legs. It can hardly get any weirder than that.
5. Mozambique
On the flag of Mozambique you can see the image of an AK-47. It is the only national flag in the world to feature such a modern rifle. From the flag you would think that it’s forbidden to read books in Mozambique.
6. The North Caucasian Emirate, Russia
The Caucasian Emirate is a self-proclaimed virtual state entity. In any case, they had an interesting flag in the period 1918 to 1921. Is it just my imagination or they have a smiley face on the flag?
7. Libya
This is the coolest flag ever. Their flag was adopted on November 11, 1977. It is the simplest flag in the world, with a green field and no other characteristics. How creative!
